UPDATE: Still no answers about body found near Colo. National Monument

FRUITA, Colo (KKCO) -- The Mesa County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate after a woman's body was found near the base of the Colorado National Monument Tuesday afternoon. No new information has been released since the body was discovered.

The Mesa County Coroner's office will complete an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death. That office will then notify family members and possibly release information about the death at that point.

FRUITA, Colo. (KKCO) - The Mesa County Sheriff's Office is working in the area where a woman's body was found before 1 p.m. Tuesday.

According to what KKCO 11 News crews on scene have heard from Sheriff's Department representatives, the woman was in her mid-20s. She was found near the west entrance to Colorado National Monument, on the north side of Rimrock Dr. by a group of tourists, 300 to 400 feet north of the West Gate.

The Sheriff's Department has brought in its Crime Scene Van as well as its unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to view the scene from above.

The Mesa County Coroner has just arrived at the scene. One lane of traffic has been reopened, to get traffic flowing again. However, the pullouts on either side of Rimrock Drive are still closed.
