FRUITA, Colo. (KKCO) The Fruita Police Department has a brand new look today as they officially opened their new building Friday evening and residents were offered the chance to tour the facilities during an open house.
Officials say that the new station will greatly benefit the department by more than doubling the the amount square footage.
"That adds a lot for us to grow," says Sargeant John Coughran. "We had a number of places that we were storing evidence, now we're storing evidence in one central location which was a big important part of the remodel."
$1.5 million in funding for the new station was provided by the city of Fruita General Fund.
In addition to the increased amount of storage space, the station has a brand new kitchen, an expanded patrol area and a new secure holding area.
