Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) – Spirits among Bronco fans are a mile high as the team gets ready to embark on the playoffs for the second straight season. But this year Bronco mania comes with a new quarterback that has Bronco fans feeling less blue and more orange.
Seeing Payton Manning throw touchdown passes is something Bronco fans have gotten used to and, those fans will be stirring up a lot of Bronco mania during the playoffs as the Broncos have home field advantage. Even though Grand Junction is four hours away from where all the magic happens Bronco fever is still hot.
"I declared it Bronco week in Grand Junction because we're just full of enthusiasm in Grand Junction enthusiastic as much in Grand Junction as they are in Denver for the Denver Broncos,” says mayor Bill Pitts.
Excitement that can't be faked. All that enthusiasm has led to more Bronco gear being sold nationwide and here locally.
"Oh yes we have sold quite a few of the jerseys, a lot of Decker jerseys, a lot of Miller jerseys. Manning jerseys, of course, probably double the sales this year with the Broncos being in the playoffs sitting in the first seed," says Keith Spence, of Sports Authority in Grand Junction.
So what to do for the big game? "So we're going to have a pub crawl and we're going to be in three different bars in three hours,” says Kathy Sheagley.
The pub crawl is starting at the Rock Slide, where fans will meet the brew master . Then fans will walk to two other bars in town, "Charlie Dwellingtons. They are going to feature Colorado brews and their also going to have their bucket of bacon."
The crawl will end up at Blue Moon bar where they will finish watching the game. The crawl starts at 2pm, but you have to be registered by 10am. You can get your ticket at www.atasteofthevalley.net
The game should be an interesting one for the governors of the two team's states as well. They're placing a friendly wager on the game. If the Broncos lose, Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper will be sending a dozen Colorado lamb chops to Annapolis. If the Ravens lose, Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley will have to ship us a dozen Chesapeake Bay crab cakes.
