DENVER (AP) -- Colorado Democrats have proposed a slate of gun-control measures -- but they won't be suggesting a full ban on assault weapons.

The package outlined Tuesday calls for universal background checks for gun purchases, plus a new ban on high-capacity magazines.

Democrats stopped short of suggesting a statewide ban on assault weapons. Instead they suggest new liability standards for the users and sellers of such guns.

The Democrats also want to see new requirements for mental health professionals telling authorities about patients who shouldn't have access to guns.

Republicans are expected to oppose the ideas. The Democratic Legislature has already rejected several GOP ideas to reduce gun violence, including a bill to allow school employees to carry concealed weapons.

Sounds like the same "old" high cap magazine band that will put more people in danger if we have multiple intruders, which have been happening lately. Gangs have been on the rise and the police are helpless to stop them. The medical information also violates privacy of patients’. As for the background checks of all people including family members, how are they going to know who has what gun unless all guns are registered to start with. We here in Colorado can just drive to Utah and sell them there without a background check. The more the Democrats infringe on our 2nd Amendment rights the more they are just wasting all our time and money creating stupid laws. We can go to adjoining states and buy new guns from dealers legally.
