Colorado State Patrol is calling their holiday heat a success after initial statistics show no one died in a DUI-related crash this New Year’s.

The enforcement period, which lasted from Dec. 28 to Jan. 2, included increased patrols by CSP and local law enforcement.

Across the state, troopers suspect four injury crashes involved alcohol and/or drug use, and 81 people were cited for DUI/D.

Here in Grand Junction, CSP investigated a fatal accident in the Redlands on New Year’s Day, when a vehicle hit a man walking down the road. Troopers think the pedestrian was intoxicated.

Even though the crackdown has ended, CSP urges Coloradans to make the resolution to plan ahead, designate a sober driver, and never drink and drive.
