LONGMONT, Colo. (AP) -- A man accused of assaulting his estranged wife at her Longmont home on May 25 and then fleeing to Canada with their 3-year-old son has been returned to Boulder County to face felony charges.

Longmont police Sgt. Joel Post said Monty Ray Turner returned Monday after Canadian authorities decided he should be deported because of the serious criminal charges.

Turner's lawyer said at a hearing in Winnipeg, Manitoba, that Turner wanted to return to the U.S. as soon as possible to face the charges.

Turner is suspected of breaking into his estranged wife's Colorado home last month, attacking her with a stun gun and pepper spray and kidnapping their son.

Turner and his son were discovered the next day at a motel in Brandon, Manitoba.
