GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- Grand Junction City Council members vote to withdraw from the Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce at the council's meeting Wednesday night.

The motion was made by Councilor Jim Doody and passed in a 4 to 2 vote.

Councilor Bennett Boeschenstein was the first to second the motion and stated the chamber has become too political and one-sided. He questions why they didn't have to file an expenditures report for money spent on campaigns.

Currently the council contributes $6,000 a year in tax-payer money to the chamber.

Grand Junction is a laughing stock. Mayor Sam told the media today that even though two members didn't show up today that is OK because, "We only need four members to get anything done." Shame on City Council and shame on the one-sided, politically active Chamber of Commerce.

Last night was not about Brainard - last night was about the “Four” using a City Council meeting to settle personal scores. The “Four” needed to learn from Council members Coons and Kenyon who showed us how one should complete a term in office. The Brainard incident has been such a hot topic that people have forgotten that thousands of citizens said - No More - to those that have been behind years of bad decisions. The bad decisions made by the this group of Four have cost us millions. These decisions impact retired people, stay at home moms, workers and businesses. The citizens, thousands of them, were so unhappy with the “Four” that both the mayor and the mayor-elect were defeated. No matter who ultimately ends up taking the seats, I hope that the new Council will work to undo the damage still being done by their predecessors.

Are there any other groups getting money to attend the meetings?
