MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) - The Mesa County Commissioners had their first reading of a newly proposed marijuana related ordinance at their meeting Monday morning.
Ordinance Number 11 exercises the county's right, under Amendment 64, to legally prohibit commercial marijuana facilities, such as retail sales outlets and commercial marijuana growing operations in Mesa County.
Commissioner Steve Acquafresca says, "We have a clear message from the majority of Mesa County residents and tax payers that they don't want to see these facilities crop up within our county boundaries."
A second reading will be held and is open to the public to provide comments and ask questions about the ordinance. The Commissioners will then act on the proposal. No date has been set yet for the second reading.
