Grand Junction, Colo (KKCO) --- R-5 High School gives students who were not successful or unhappy at traditional high schools a second chance.

Many students that attend the school come from broken homes, have a criminal background or became teen parents.

Ashley Moore is one of those students.

After her mother committed suicide when she was just 7-years-old, she started drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana to mask her pain. That behavior led her to be taken into the Department of Youth Corrections 16 times.

Moore says the 16th time was when she got committed and was a blessing in disguise because she finally realized she needed to get her life together.

She enrolled in R-5 High School and is now the first person in her family to graduate.

She says she hopes to further her education and create a successful future for herself.
