GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Mesa County will be seeing some new officers for the Democratic and Republican executive committees after tonight.

This morning both parties held their elections to bring in new officers and re-elect some past members.

Both elections took place at 9:00 a.m. this morning.

The Republicans held their meeting at City Hall, and the Democrats gathered at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

"We've taken a few deep breathes after that long race but we've still got some tough terrain to cover so that's what we're looking at. I think we've got a bunch of good folks that'll help us do that," said Troy Douglas, Democratic party vice chair.

"Since we had such a great turnout for Republicans and for Governor Romney in the last election, we were granted 10 bonus members for Mesa County; so right now we're electing 8 more members that will be going to Denver to help with the reorganization of the state Republican party," said Lois Dunn, Republican party chairman.

These elections happen once every two years, on the odd year in February.
