Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) – If you can remember the five D's of dodgeball, it might just help you win the first ever "Dodge High Fares" Dodgeball Tournament, a benefit for the United Way. The Grand Junction Regional Airport has teamed up with the United Way of Mesa County and Allegiant Air to host the event.

A live demonstration of the sport and the unique costumes, such as C-3PO, played a game of dodgeball on Tuesday in front of the Allegiant Air desk. The costumes fit right in with the tournament's theme of sci-fi. You don't even have to risk playing to get involved and help out.

"There are also some volunteer opportunities for being a ref. or during the day we're going to need a little extra help to pull this off and that is two ways to directly give and the other way is to come out and support us on the day of," says Abby Landmeier, manager of volunteers with the United Way.

All the proceeds will go to the United Way of Mesa County. The tournament will be held on Saturday, July 20th at the Bookcliff Activity Center.

Registration is at 9am and is $100 per team
With the winning team taking home $1,000
2nd place $500
3rd place $250

There will also be a 250 dollar cash prize for the team that wins best matching uniforms.
