GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) September and the start of football season usually means cooler weather as fall begins to roll in, but that is not yet the case this year.

Thursday's high was 94 degrees, which is 10 degrees higher than average at this time of year.

However, one local mom is taking advantage of the extended summer.

"We go to the park," said Kristen Bunch, a mom of three. "The kids still like to play in the water so we run through the sprinklers, enjoying ice cream. All the fun stuff we do in the summer we try to carry it on through September."

Bunch's children and some of their friends played on the jungle gym and flew high on the swings at Canyon View Park Thursday morning.

"It's nice to get the kids out," said Kristen Bunch, a mom of three. "They get really cooped up in the winter and last winter lasted a long time or at least it seemed to to us, so it's been really nice to enjoy it a little bit longer this year."
