GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. One family is celebrating the birth of their son and that he will be the first in the area with 2014 in his birth certificate.
Flora Rodriguez, of Parachute, wasn't due for another 11 days, but she started going into labor at 7 p.m. on New Year's Eve.
Her son was born at 6:30 a.m. on January 1, 2014.
"This isn't that common," said Flora Rodriguez through an interpreter as she speaks Spanish. "Not everybody can do this, so I'm happy."
He doesn't have a name just yet, but the family has a new New Year's Day tradition.
"We'll certainly celebrate the baby and the new year," Rodriguez said.
Baby Rodriguez is a healthy 7 pounds, 12 ounces and he's 20 inches long.
Three other babies were delivered on New Year's morning right after Rodriguez's son.
