GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- One firefighter is injured after a house catches fire in Orchard Mesa.

A passerby reported flames coming from the side of the house--located at 2911 Jon Hall Street --around 12:50 p.m. Friday.

Grand Junction Fire Public Information Officer Mike Page says the fire sparked outside on the southeast corner, then spread inside.

Four fire stations responded to the fire, deploying 18 people, who entered through the front door.

As firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, part of the ceiling collapsed in the kitchen area, falling on one fireman. He was treated for minor injuries, according to Page.

No one was home at the time.

The crews used a new technique called compressed aerated foam system to put out the flames. The fire had spread extensively through the house.

Page says the burn and smoke damage to the exterior and attic is significant.

The cause is still under investigation.
