GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) At 2:57 p.m. MDT the National Weather service issued a Flash Flood Warning for central Garfield County, south-central Garfield county, and north-central Mesa County. The warning is in effect until 6:30 p.m. MDT.

The NWS identified slow moving thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall 17 miles northwest of DeBeque moving slowly east at five miles per hour. Radar estimates rainfall amounts in excess of one inch an hour falling from these storms.

Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flash flooding to occur, especially along Roan Creek, Carr Creek, Mamm Creek, Divide Creek, June Creek, Corral Creek, Alkali Creek, Salt Creek, and Garfield Creek.

A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. If you are in the warning area take precautionary measures such as moving to higher ground.
