MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) -- Colorado State Patrol troopers and other law enforcement agencies ticketed thousands of drivers during their latest Click It or Ticket campaign.
CDOT officials say there were more than 9,327 seat belt citations between May 20 and June 2.
It was part of a nation-wide campaign to get more people to buckle up. On top of seat belt citations, agencies made 67 fugitive, 106 DUI and 33 drug-related arrests. Across the state, 635 people were ticketed for driver with a suspended or no driver's license.
During that two-week enforcement period, officials say 13 drivers and two passengers died in crashes across the state. Eight of them weren't wearing seat belts.
The minimum fine for not wearing a seat belt in Colorado is $65, and for kids it's $82.
CSP troopers based out of the Fruita office issued 398 citations, and the Glenwood Springs office cited 399 people.
