FRUITA, Colo. (KKCO) -- New information on the shooting in Fruita.

A man was shot in the 100 block of Hollyberry in Fruita just before 1:00 a.m. Saturday morning. It all began when officers attempted to pull the man over for a traffic stop at Kokopelli and Highway 340, he drove away, officers drove through a nearby neighborhood and found the suspects vehicle near a residence. After leaving the vehicle the suspect was shot because police believed the man was armed.

We have not been able to confirm with police if the suspect was in fact armed and we were told he was the only person involved in the incident. However, listening to previously recorded radio traffic from the incident- it seems others may have been involved.

"And just confirming the suspect is still at large? We have no one at large, we have one man down. We have one female, not involved, but passed out inside the residence. We have one male cuffed inside the residence at this point," previously recorded radio traffic.

At this time we do know the suspect is dead and no one is at large. Fruita PD Chief Mark Angelo said three officers were involved in the incident. And a critical incident team has been established to investigate the shooting.

The suspect's name has not been released and it is not known his relation to the area. However, witnesses say they believe the man was shot in front of his own home.

KKCO has reached out to authorities and they are unable to answer questions about radio traffic at this time.
