GJFD contains brush fire along ditch bank

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – The Grand Junction Fire Department responded to a brush fire located at 2520 I Road. Two structures were threatened by the fire. Units arrived on scene to provide structure protection and fire suppression to the homes.

Approximately two acres were burned and no structures lost. A significant amount of fencing surrounding the neighboring field was damaged. Estimated loss in the fire was $2,000. This fire was a result of an out of control prescribed burn. There were no injuries related to the fire.

As a reminder, conditions in the area remain dry and a small fire can quickly get out of control. Please make sure to have all proper equipment, personnel and check the weather before starting your burn. If you have additional questions, please contact the fire department for assistance.


GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – The Grand Junction Fire Department responded to a wildfire at approximately 10:29 a.m. on 25 and I Road.

Landowners started a controlled fire along the ditch bank of their property when gusts of wind came, making the fire go out of control. The wildfire was moving rapidly toward structures and residents were threatened.

The Grand Junction Fire Department was able to control the fire and contain it. There were no injuries and no property damaged.

Spring burn season began Mar. 1 and will be in effect until May 31.
