GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) Skaters in the Grand Valley got some good news Monday after owners of the area's only ice arena met with city council.

The meeting's purpose was to discuss possible city funding, but the owners found investors prior to the meeting and appear to have the funding needed to get the arena back up and running.

"It's a huge thing for the community," Alan Koos, part-owner of Glacier Ice Arena said. "It's just one more thing for kids to do Friday and Saturday nights with the hockey, figure skating and public skates. We feel very strongly that this will really build and help the community."

The arena saw immediate success in 2006 when it was first opened, but was forced to shut down in 2010 because of a faulty refrigeration unit.

An outdoor rink located near the intersection of North Avenue and North 3rd shut down for good a couple months ago, leaving local skaters without a home.

Though the opening date is not set in stone, Koos hopes to open the doors as early as this November.
