GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- Users on Facebook and other social media sites were showing their support Tuesday as the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments on the controversial issue of same sex marriage.
People all over the country changed their profile pictures to equal signs to show they supported marriage equality.
Just this month the Colorado legislature approved civil unions. Our state joins 17 others that already recognize gay marriage or some kind of civil union; the other 32 states prohibit it.
Tuesday, one Grand Junction woman stood on the corner of 7th Street and North Avenue to voice her support of marriage equality.
"I just feel like not a lot of people realize how important it is, like oh it doesn't affect me, but it does. The fact that you can go home to the person you love and they can be your wife or your husband, it does matter," said Laura Houston.
