MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) – Fever, vomiting, body aches: all have taken our city and its hospitals by storm.

The Mesa County Health Department reports a steady rise in flu cases across the Grand Valley. So far, 17 hospitalizations have been attributed to influenza.

Officials say it’s not too late to get your flu shot. This week, the health department is hosting two clinics where adults can get their shots without an appointment.

The first is on Jan. 17 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Mesa County Central Services Building at 200 South Spruce Street. The second will be Jan. 22 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Salvation Army at 1155 N. 4th Street.

Each shot will cost you $20 if paid at the time of service, but most private insurance companies, Medicare and Medicaid can be billed.

Vaccinations are also available on a walk-in basis at the Mesa County Health Department, 510 29 ½ Road, at the following times:

• Mondays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.


• Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.


• Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.


• Fridays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

At the Fruita office, 215 N. Plum, walk-ins are welcome at these times:

• Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.


• Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
