COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- A Colorado Springs high school was evacuated after a teacher noticed unusual corrosion on the lock of a chemical supplies closet.
George Stone, principal of Aspen Valley Alternative High School, explains more than 100 students were forced to leave the school for about an hour Friday afternoon while a hazardous materials crew from the Colorado Springs Fire Department checked on the spill.
Officials determined that all of the chemicals were safely intact inside the cabinet, and that the residue of a mild corrosive that had previously spilled was responsible for the rusty discoloration on the lock.
