GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. With cycling season around the corner, a local homeless shelter is encouraging people to bike for the homeless.
Homeward Bound held its first "Worst Day of the Year" bike ride Sunday morning.
The national bike event in February gets people pedaling even if the weather is less than ideal, but the sun was out for the Homeward Bound event, warming up the 10 mile bike loop and shedding light on homelessness.
"Families and men and women who are suddenly in a predicament when they have no place else to go," said Roxanne Green, who is on the Homeward Bound board of directors.
There was also a silent auction at the event to raise money for Homeward Bound and their future plans to build a family center.
However, Green said this year's ride was more about raising awareness of the shelter's services than bringing in funds.
