GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- As of July 1, home brewing will be legal in all 50 states. It's a growing trend that's been gaining ground over the last 30 years, but recently the number of home brewers has jumped tens of thousands.
Craft brews and microbreweries led the way for homemade lagers, ales and other hoppy beverages. Today about one million Americans brew their own batch at least once a year.
For one local man, what started out as a hobby turned into much more.
"I just got fascinated with the different flavors I was coming across, and I wanted to do it at home," said owner of the Kettle Club Daniel Collins.
Collins said his wife got him into crafting.
"My wife bought me a kit for my birthday, so I made a kit for my birthday, and it just kept going from there," said Collins.
Collins said the home brew process takes about four to five weeks in total and supplies and ingredients can cost as little as $85.
The biggest things to remember when crafting your own brew are not get discouraged and sanitation to protect the quality of the product and your health.
