GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - The housing market plays a huge part of our national and local economies.

Fortunately, we've seen positive movement here in Mesa County with real estate.

The number of houses under contract is up 2% over the last year.

This is a good sign for the economy; realtors believe this can bring in more jobs that relate to the housing industry.

"Probably means more jobs, more people being able to go back to work in the housing, anything connected with the housing industry," said Mike Moran, Heiden Homes Realty realtor.

But there are some areas that need some work with this good news.

"The reality of what we're dealing with now is we don't have enough inventory in a lot of the price ranges that seem to move in the Grand Junction market," said Joe Tripoli, RE/MAX broker.

Since the inventory is low, realtors recommend moving fast on houses you’re interested in.

Also, be ready to start the process right away since more people are buying and fewer houses are available.
