GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) -- Area hikers discovered what they believed to be human remains a short distance off county road 309.
The Garfield County Sheriff's Office arrived to the scene on Friday and confirmed that the remains appear to be human.
According to WPX Energy, the site was on the Forshee Property, approximately one fourth of the way from Battlement Mesa to Rulison, on the South side of the Colorado River.
Saturday morning investigators from the GCSO and CBI met at the site to begin collecting evidence.
Now CBI will use the DNA retrieved from the site to identify the remains.
Officials expect this to happen by the end of next week. They are conducting an investigation to find out what happened.
