GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – A local group joined a nationwide effort in what many called "A National Day of Action" to support comprehensive immigration reform.
Wednesday evening, supporters gathered on the corner of 12th and North Avenue for a candlelight vigil.
They say the effort is an important one because it's a small step towards a path to citizenship.
"This is so important to me personally because I have family members who are undocumented, and I want to see them come out of the shadows and to live and to participate and to work legally and to benefit from comprehensive immigration reform," says Nicole Bernal Ruiz, the program director for the Hispanic Affairs Project in Grand Junction.
On Saturday, April 27 at 10:30 a.m., the group will host a march for comprehensive immigration reform. The march will begin at Sherwood Park and end at Lincoln Park.
