MESA COUNTY, Colo. The official report has been released on the plane crash in Collbran that killed three men in December.

The National Transportation Safety Board said visual conditions were ideal for the flight that ended in tragedy when pilot Dana Brewer and his passengers Richard Platz and William Kennon took off from the Mack airport to search for cattle on the Mesa.

The NTSB said residents reported the plane was flying at low altitude, but there were no witnesses to the accident.

Officials said the damage to the airplane was severe after it crashed in a lightly wooded area.

This is just the preliminary report, word on what caused the piper to crash could be 9 to 12 months out.
