GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Barrels have been placed all around town where locals can leave food donations for Valley residents who can not afford to make a holiday meal this Christmas.
The Salvation Army makes Christmas food boxes filled with a traditional holiday meal, including a turkey and all the fixings, for low income families.
Last year nearly 70,000 pounds of food were donated and officials at the Salvation Army said this holiday season their goal is to get 10% more.
Barrels will not be picked up from businesses until the end of December, but barrels at schools have an earlier pick up date of December 11-13.
The Salvation Army needs turkey donations, but are accepting all nonperishable food items.
KKCO 11 News is a proud sponsor of the food drive and challenges all locals to donate and help out families in need.
