Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) – Rodeo's super bowl is currently going on in Las Vegas, and one Grand Junction local is roping in the wins.

It's Brock Hanson's first time competing in the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

The 27-year-old rookie roped the fastest steer in 3.7 seconds with his teammate Ryan Motes. Five days into the ten-day competition, he has earned $32,686 dollars, and with five rounds left, he's taking it one ride at a time.

"I think it's one of those deals where we just take it one steer at a time and we're in a spot where we need to win as much as we can so I don't know if its going to change our game plan but it sure does help to have them all caught," says Hanson.

Hanson and Motes set a world record earlier this year in team roping with a 3.3 seconds run last spring in Texas.
