GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) A new partnership between the local VA Hospital and Community Hospital will now save many veterans a trip to a bigger city for surgery.

The partnership was announced on Thursday. VA surgeons will now be certified to work at Community to conduct the surgeries some veterans currently need to travel to Denver, Salt Lake City, or even further to have done.

It also saves the VA Hospital money by using Community Hospital's foundation.

"There is no lose to this, this is defiantly a win, win. It's good care for our veterans, it's covenant care for our veterans, it's partnering with the community and again it's saving American tax dollars," says Paul Sweeney, VA Hospital.

The partnership comes almost two years after the Department of Veterans Affairs suspended the medical center's surgical designation. Smaller surgeries still can be performed at the VA Hospital.
