Grand Junction, Colo (KKCO) --- Local company Raven Ridge Resources is one of the six companies chosen out of 41 applicants to participate in an EcoPartnership program in China to promote a cleaner global environment.

Others working with this partnership include Coca-Cola, Stony Brook University, the Natural Resource Defense Council and the National Center for Climate Change.

Raven Ridge will work to drain and utilize methane gas from coal mines. Methane is one of the most damaging greenhouse gases and causes explosions in mines every year in China.

Jim Marshall, Executive Vice President of Raven Ridge, said they have made efforts to pursue this resource in the United States, however due to the abundance of natural gas here, there is no economic incentive to move forward with this.

President Ray Pilcher is currently in China and working on the project.
