Local hospitals host blood drives

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – January is National Blood Donor Month and anyone who is able to donate blood will help patients in need at a blood drive near you. Blood centers around Mesa County supply blood and blood products to all Western Slope communities. Thousands of blood donations are needed each day for accident victims, cancer patients, and children with blood disorders. Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood.

No appointment is necessary at the Blood Center located at 750 Wellington Avenue in Grand Junction. Hours are from Monday to Friday, beginning at 7 a.m. and ending at 5:30 p.m. Weekend hours will only be on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Another blood drive will take place today, Jan. 5, at Outback Steakhouse. A free appetizer will be given to anyone that donates blood. This drive will go from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
