GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) A typical trip to the gym turned into a dangerous one when Ben Shepardson started having a heart attack.
But he is alive today and able to celebrate the American Red Cross' recognition of the three people who helped save him.
"I am completely blessed to have all these people in my life," Shepardson said. "They couldn't have been by my side at a better time."
Dennis and Amber Jones, who are not related, stepped in when Shepardson collapsed to the ground during a boot camp class at Crossroads Fitness on June 13.
The two performed CPR while the Crossroads general manger, Cameron Reece, brought over an AED.
Dennis, Amber and Reece all received life saver awards during a recognition ceremony on Thursday.
"I mean it was just this man obviously needs help and you just do it," Amber said. "You don’t really think about it. I mean he’s an amazing man."
