Lots of cone zones delaying traffic

Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) --- While the dry, hot weather may not be comfortable for Grand Junction residents, it creates a perfect environment for fixing our roads.

A layer of hot, wet oil is lied on top of the existing asphalt and is then covered by small chips of rock. The chips are smoothed down and left to harden.

The process is called "chipseal," and allows crews to preserve the asphalt and seal out water.

Although many residents may be frustrated with the delays, officials say that they're doing their best to keep traffic flowing.

"Be patient with us, we know everybody's needing to get some place," says City of Grand Junction Manager of Streets and Solid waste. "We're working around that and just doing the best we job we can to get people through the traffic but also get the work done."

Crews will always try to keep at least one lane open during any construction.
