UPDATE: Man spends night in canal, arrested in the morning

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) A man drove into a canal and stayed there overnight Sunday.

According to Grand Junction Police, a man and his female passenger were in a Jeep Cherokee on Willowbrook Rd. The man drove north into a culdesac, hit a rock, and then drove down an embankment into an irrigation canal. The driver then continued westbound in the canal for approximately 500 ft before striking an irrigation pipe. The driver was cited for careless driving and DUI.

Police believe the crash happened shortly after midnight, early Sunday morning, but the 911 dispatch center did not receive a call until just before 7 a.m.

The driver is 26-year-old Trevor Mosher of Grand Junction.
