Authorities have released the name of a 57-year-old man who was killed in a paragliding accident on Lookout Mountain in Golden.

GOLDEN, Colo. (AP) Authorities have released the name of a 57-year-old man who was killed in a paragliding accident on Lookout Mountain in Golden.

The Denver Post reports Kevin Smith, of Erie, took off at about 3:30 p.m. Friday and crashed near the prominent "M'' logo that represents the Colorado School of Mines. Multiple eyewitnesses on Colorado 93 saw the crash and called the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities have not said how Smith crashed.

Paragliding has been popular at Lookout Mountain since the 1960s.
