MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) - A man who authorities say assaulted a deputy is on the loose. Mesa County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of a man slumped over the steering wheel of his pick-up truck at about 10 AM Saturday morning. He was parked near Lark Drive and Thrush Drive.

Deputies say the man, 46-year-old Thomas Yates, assaulted the deputy who tried to wake him. The officer tased Yates, but witnesses say Yates then dragged the deputy several feet as he was half hanging out of his truck

Yates was able to drive away without the officer, hitting a car as he fled. Witnesses say Yates then got out of his truck, yelling that he was shot. A 19-year-old young man then tried to help, but also got into an altercation with Yates. Witnesses say the teenager ended up getting sent to the hospital with an injured shoulder. Deputies ultimately found Yates's truck, but he took off on foot and is still at large.

Yates is described as 5'11," 210 pounds with brown hair, blue eyes and mustache. He's missing three fingers on his right hand from an accident years ago.
