NBC News (KKCO) -- Independence Day Fireworks shows have been canceled at several U.S. military bases.
Officials say budget cuts and furloughed workers forced the cancellations. Last year's fireworks display at North Carolina's camp Lejeune cost about a $100,000 dollars in materials and personnel expenses. The base commander said the money saved will help address other financial challenges.
Activities such as pool parties and band concerts will be offered as alternatives.
