GRAND JUNCTION, Colo (KKCO) The "Toys for our Tiny Soldiers" event took place at the Army National Guard Armory in Grand Junction Saturday. Thousands of free toys were on display for military families to shop until they dropped. The toys were donated by community members. The event was open to active duty, reserves, national guard, veterans, and survivor families. Volunteers say those who risk their lives for our freedom simply aren't paid enough, and this is a small way to thank them.

"They lay down their lives for us, and they don't always get compensated in their pay for what they do for us. All of them, no matter where they are in their military career, have a hard time," said Danielle Hindson, a military family assistance specialist. "It really is about the Christmas spirit, and this is a perfect opportunity to do that. There's nothing more rewarding than watching those parents be so full of gratitude," said Danelle Ridenour and Dilon Silzell, two volunteers who helped organize Saturday's event. "My parents provided for us before they provided for themselves, so that's what we kinda try to do. Anything we can do to make our kids see us as more than we actually are is kind of great," added Sergeant First Class Bryan Stephen with the Colorado Army National Guard, who also volunteered his time during Saturday's event.

Dozens of military families stopped by to grab some toys for their little ones. Organizers tell us 90 military kids were given toys this year. Any leftover toys will be saved for next year.
