Mobile device activations hit record high on Christmas

This holiday season was a record-setting one for the makers of mobile devices.

Nearly 17.4 million Android and Apple smartphones and tablets were activated on Christmas Day, the highest amount of activations in history.

To put that number in perspective, activations last Christmas were just 6.8 million, marking a 2.5 times increase for 2012.

Flurry, an app analytics platform that tracks such data, released news of the record-setting activations Friday.

The report went on to say that more tablets were activated than smartphones.

iPad, iPad Mini and Kindle Fire HD accounted for over half of the activations on Christmas Day.

According to the report, app downloads also spiked on Christmas Day. More than 328 million were downloaded.
