DENVER (AP) -- A 24-year-old man has been charged in a fatal shooting outside a nightclub near downtown Denver.

The Denver Post says Marvin Rosario-Lopez faces charges of first-degree murder after deliberation and first-degree murder with extreme indifference stemming from the death of 47-year-old Ronald Smith early Sunday.

Authorities say the shooting occurred at 11th Avenue near Lincoln Street, and a number of people were on the streets in the area where bars and restaurants were beginning to empty out.

Smith had been at the club with his wife to watch his youngest son -- rapper Andrew Smith -- perform. Police say he was shot after confronting a man he believed smashed a beer bottle onto his older son's head.
