GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – With recent national tragic events involving guns, the message of gun safety is getting pushed more and more. This weekend, the National Rifle Association and the outdoor gear store Cabela's teamed up to help people know more about handling guns safely.

Cabela's hosted their bi-annual NRA weekend, which featured teaching seminars and demonstrations for customers, promoting gun safety education for the future.

The courses ranged from Colorado state gun laws, how to keep your firearm in good shape, women's self-defense classes and handgun defense.

"With NRA weekend, they really offer us a lot of support in their expertise and their respective field," said Lauren Truitt, Cabela’s retail events coordinator.

An NRA representative was present selling memberships and encouraging customers to sit in on these seminars.

The next NRA weekend at Cabela's will be sometime in the spring, in case you missed out on this weekend's events.
