GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- Challenged council members emptied their seats as the city clerk read off the official election results for the remaining council at Wednesday night's meeting. The motion to accept the municipal election results passed in a unanimous vote of four to zero.

Two of the four new members were at the city council meeting Wednesday and said they are already thinking ahead, working to get in the mindset of council member.

"There's so much to learn, and there's no way you can jump in and know it all, and I'm still going to meetings, and I'm still going to try to get to meetings and meet with department heads, and of course, you can't actually do that until you get on the board," said District A winner Phyllis Norris.

District D winner Martin Chazen said he plans to focus on the financial aspect of the city.

"Coming up to speed as fast as I can, and I am ready to hit the ground running as fast as I can, and I'm going to use this month to continue learning as much about the city as I possibly can," said Chazen.

There was one very close race in the District D race, and clerking officials said candidates have until next Tuesday to request a recount of the vote.

New members will take office on May 6, at which point there will be a reorganization of the board, and members will vote on a new mayor.
