GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - The Mesa County Sheriff's Office will soon send some new patrol cars out on the street.

The Mesa County Commissioners approved funding for four new vehicles for the Sheriff's Office, to the tune of $121,676.

Officials say as it is, Deputies share the cars, so each car is used during multiple shifts throughout the day.

The extra use puts a lot of wear and tear on the vehicles.

"Those will replace for older cars that have well exceeded the national standard for mileage for law enforcement. So they'll replace those and then the new cars will come into our fleet here at the Sheriff's Office," said Heather Benjamin, with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials at the Sheriff's Office say don't expect to see these four new cars anytime soon; approval for the new cars is the first of many steps.

Now, it'll be a process over the next few months to get the vehicles and then fit them with the Sheriff decals, lights and other devices.
