GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- Nisley Elementary, Bookcliff Middle schools and Kinderhous Daycare are transitioning to normal operations after going into lockdown this afternoon.
The schools were closed for about 20 minutes, starting at 2:50 p.m. Grand Junction Police spokesperson Kate Porras says authorities received reports of a person in the area carrying a rifle, so they decided to shut down the campuses.
When officers got on scene, they found a woman who had a plastic gun. Porras says she never threatened anyone with it, and she was not on school property at the time.
If you need to pick up your kids, know that it may take a bit longer today as schools get back to normal.
