Officer involved shooting kills one person on Grand Avenue

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. The Grand Junction Police Department confirms that there was a shooting in the 1700 block of Grand Avenue, resulting in the death of a suspect.

Officers were called to remove a person who was outside a home in the 1700 block of Grand Avenue around 12:00 p.m. on Monday. When officers arrived on scene they contacted a person in a vehicle.

From there, details are scarce but a shooting ensued. The suspect was shot and died on scene. Two officers were involved in the shooting, and neither of them were injured.

The 21st Judicial District Critical Incident Team has been activated as is standard procedure in officer involved shootings. The two officers involved are on administrated leave.

Grand Ave is currently closed between 17th and 18th streets.
