GRAND JUNCTION, Colo (KKCO) -- A rain storm, combined with lightening swept across the Grand Valley overnight, causing flooding and fires.

The storm lasted for a few hours and lightning lit up the night sky. One strike is believed to have caused a fire on the roof of a Child Care Center at 12th and Grand.

At around 3 a.m Wednesday morning, a woman in a small car traveling southbound on 7th street at Riverside parkway, entered deep waters causing her car to stall out. The water was halfway up the car doors. There was a child in the car with her but everyone was able to get out without being injured. Rescue crews pushed the car out of water using an SUV, and then called a tow truck.

Flooding was also a problem, and continued to cause issues Wednesday morning.

Riverside parkway was closed between 5th and 9th street because of high waters, traffic was being diverted at the 5th street bridge. Wednesday morning, lanes were blocked but authorities say most lanes along the Parkway have re-opened, however, 7th street is closed south of Winters Ave.
