Drivers in Orchard Mesa will need to pay extra attention as a new traffic signal becomes operational Wednesday.

ORCHARD MESA, Colo. (KKCO) - The light has been installed at the intersection of Highway 50 and 27 3/4 Road, across from the City Market entrance.

Mesa County officials say the entire intersection has been re-vamped, with a concrete island and turn lanes as well as pedestrian walkway. The construction will provide a safe way for vehicles turning onto 27 3/4 Road to do so. The work is Phas 1 of the Safety and Mobility Improvement around the Fairgrouns and cost about $700,000.

Officials say drivers need to rememebr the light is operational as of Wednesday morning and there will not be a period of flashing lights, so drivers need to pay attention right away.
