GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) Professional cowboys and cowgirls came to Grand Junction this weekend to show off their skills in the final competition of the season.

The Colorado Professional Rodeo Association's finals took over the Mesa County Fairgrounds Friday through Sunday.

The top twelve contestants from each rodeo event came to win cash and find out who would be crowned this season's champions.

"The electricity that's in bareback riding," competitor David Streweler said of why he loves the tough sport. "It's fast. It's demanding. It's physical. I love every minute of it."

Competitors came from all over Colorado in addition to New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.

The event is one of the top fundraisers for the Mesa County Sheriff's Posse, which puts the money toward programs such as Mesa County Search and Rescue and Mesa County Partners.
